Burns Quaich 1878 Member of the Robert Burns World Federation Ltd ( No 461 ) Member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society Objects of the Society: “To perpetuate and foster the natural characteristics of the Scottish people; to encourage Scottish literature, music and dancing and to keep alive the great tradition of Scottish ancestry”. Origins: The Society was created by expatriate Scots (plus some Englishmen) in January 1877 at a Burns Night dinner as a means of keeping in touch with other Scots in Leicestershire and maintaining their Scottish traditions. Membership was initially exclusively male Scots but since 1999 we have welcomed anyone supporting our objects and currently have around 160 members. Enquiries about membership: should be addressed to the Membership Secretary who will issue an information pack including a membership application form. Applications are considered at the next monthly Council meeting and if approved, the applicant is welcomed to membership. Subscriptions: currently £10.00 per year for single members and £17.00 for couples are due for payment on 1 st March each year. Junior members aged 15 – 18 years pay no subscription but may not vote.
